Jamie Foxx, the Oscar-winning actor known for his roles in Ray and Django Unchained, recently opened up about a severe medical emergency he experienced last year.

The incident, which Foxx described as taking him “to hell and back,” began with a sudden, intense headache and left him hospitalized for an extended period.

On April 11, 2023, Foxx was in Atlanta filming the Netflix action comedy Back in Action with Cameron Diaz. The day started like any other, but Foxx soon developed a “bad headache.”

As he recounted in a video shared by a fan, “I asked my boy for an Advil, and then, boom, I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything.” This statement highlighted the severity and suddenness of his condition, which left him with no recollection of the events that followed.

His condition quickly deteriorated, prompting his sister Deidra and daughter Corinne to rush him to a doctor in Atlanta.

After initial assessments, the doctors were concerned about something serious occurring “up there,” pointing to his head. Despite receiving a cortisone shot, his condition did not improve, leading to a longer hospital stay. Foxx was subsequently transferred to a specialist facility in Chicago for further treatment and rehabilitation.

Foxx’s road to recovery was arduous and filled with uncertainty. In various updates shared on social media and in public appearances, Foxx emphasized the difficulty of his journey.

At the Critics Choice Awards, where he received the Vanguard Award, Foxx shared, “I did go to hell and back.” He revealed that during his illness, he was unable to walk and that the experience had given him a “new respect for life… [and] for my art.”

He mentioned in a video, “I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”

Foxx has hinted at eventually sharing the full story of his health crisis, but he plans to do so in his unique style, potentially through a filmed special or a stand-up routine.

Until then, he remains focused on his work and his recovery. His resilience is evident as he continues to participate in various projects, including the game show We Are Family, which he will co-host with his daughter Corinne.
