Visual Artist CJ de Silva-Ong Passes Away at 36
CJ de Silva-Ong, a celebrated visual artist and former Promil Gifted Child, has passed away at the age of 36. The news was confirmed by her husband, Wincy Ong, in a social media post on Wednesday morning. CJ succumbed to an aneurysm and two subsequent strokes on Tuesday while in the ICU.
CJ’s health troubles began last week when she suffered an aneurysm, as Wincy shared in a previous social media post, asking for prayers.
Despite undergoing a coiling surgery to address the aneurysm, the procedure was not successful, necessitating a second attempt.
Unfortunately, before the second procedure could take place, CJ suffered two massive strokes in the ICU, leading to her untimely death.
“She fought to the very end. Sadly, yesterday at 10:45 AM, while in the ICU, our beloved CJ suffered two strokes and finally became one with the Universe,” Wincy shared in his heartfelt tribute. “She was a loving wife to me, a loving cat-mom to our cats Andres and Max, and a loving daughter to her parents and uncle. She was a passionate Executive Creative Director in the industry she loved so much-advertising. She used her talents in illustration and painting in championing causes close to her heart.”
She rose to fame in the 1990s as one of the Promil Gifted Children, a campaign that showcased exceptionally talented young individuals. This early exposure was just the beginning of her journey in the arts and advertising industries.
She went on to become the Executive Creative Director at TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno, where she left a lasting impact with her innovative and heartfelt work.
In her tribute, Wincy Ong described CJ as not just a talented artist, but also a kind and caring individual who touched many lives.
“From the many people who visited the hospital or sent in a message or two, I learned that CJ was a gift herself to the people who came to know her. Behind that tough and take-charge person you may know is such a sweet, caring girl. I will always remember her for the kindness she brought to people,” he said.
Wincy also shared CJ’s wish for her funeral to be a joyful celebration rather than a solemn occasion.
He invited friends and loved ones to celebrate her life with music, conversations, coffee, and good food-elements that brought CJ happiness. Her wake will be held at The Heritage Park in Taguig from June 20 to June 22, with cremation services scheduled for June 23.
