After a ten-year hiatus, Icelandic singer-songwriter Emilíana Torrini is set to release her new album Miss Flower on June 21.

This highly anticipated return is inspired by a unique and intimate source, a box of old love letters belonging to a family friend. These letters gave Torrini a rich background to create music that mixes past emotions with modern sounds, resulting in a very personal and moving musical experience.

The story behind Miss Flower is as interesting as the album itself. A close friend of Torrini’s inherited a box of letters after her mother died. These letters were addressed to Geraldine Flower, who had an exciting life filled with nine marriage proposals but never got married.

The letters contained stories of love, humor, and even espionage. These fascinating tales inspired Torrini to create songs that blend these vivid stories with her own musical style.

Torrini’s eighth studio album shows her skill in mixing different musical styles. She is known for her versatility, moving from the trip-hop sounds of her debut “Love In The Time Of Science” to the acoustic-folk style of “Fisherman’s Woman.”

In “Miss Flower,” she combines various sounds, including the emotional “The Golden Thread” and the sensual title track “Miss Flower.” Each song highlights Torrini’s ability to blend storytelling with music, creating a smooth and engaging listening experience.

To bring “Miss Flower” to life, Torrini is embarking on a European tour starting in Slovakia on July 11.

This tour, which spans multiple countries including Germany, Italy, and the UK, marks her significant return to live performances. The tour not only showcases the new album but also reconnects Torrini with her audience, creating a live narrative that extends the album’s intimate storytelling into the concert experience.

She co-wrote Kylie Minogue’s hit Slow and has worked with notable artists like Thievery Corporation and Slovo. Her work, which includes a Grammy nomination and several prestigious awards, highlights her impact on the music industry.
