Funny Car Racer John Force Recovering After Dramatic NHRA Crash
John Force, the revered figure in Funny Car racing, is currently recovering after a terrifying crash during the NHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park.
The incident occurred during the first round of eliminations when Force’s Chevrolet Camaro experienced a catastrophic engine explosion shortly after crossing the finish line, propelling his car into a collision with the concrete barriers at high speed.
Force, 75, who recently celebrated his 157th NHRA victory in New Hampshire, was immediately attended to by the NHRA Medical Team on-site. Despite the intensity of the crash and subsequent fire engulfing his vehicle, Force managed to exit the car and was swiftly airlifted to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation.
The racing community, including former NASCAR star Tony Stewart, now competing in NHRA’s Top Fuel class, expressed solidarity and support for Force’s recovery.
Stewart, known for his own racing prowess, described Force as “one tough cookie” in a social media post, reflecting the admiration and concern felt by many within the motorsport fraternity.
In a poignant display of team solidarity, Force’s teammate Austin Prock went on to win the Funny Car division, dedicating his victory to Force and emphasizing the resilience and camaraderie prevalent among racers. The gesture underscored the competitive spirit and unity within NHRA racing despite the inherent risks involved.
