George Strait Sets U.S. Attendance Record at Historic Kyle Field Concert
On Saturday night, country music legend George Strait made history at Texas A&M University’s Kyle Field by performing in front of a record-breaking crowd of 110,905 fans.
This monumental concert set the U.S. record for the highest attendance at a ticketed concert, surpassing the previous record held by the Grateful Dead since 1997.
The concert was an extraordinary event not just for Strait but also for Kyle Field, marking the largest single event ever hosted at the venue. The stadium’s previous record was 110,663 attendees during a Texas A&M football game against Ole Miss in 2014.
Strait, joined by opening acts Catie Offerman from New Braunfels and Parker McCollum from Conroe, took the stage at 9:15 p.m. and delivered a spectacular performance that lasted well past 11 p.m., including a memorable encore. This concert was part of Strait’s ongoing tour and was his only stop in Texas, making it an especially significant occasion for the state and his fans.
“This is my first time to ever be in Kyle Field. Damn! Just invite me back!” Strait exclaimed during his performance, visibly moved by the overwhelming support of the audience.
His remark highlighted the unique nature of the event, which showcased Kyle Field’s versatility beyond its primary function as a football stadium.
Among the notable attendees were new Texas A&M football coach Mike Elko and Senator Ted Cruz. Elko shared a photo from the venue and had to miss the Texas A&M baseball team’s College World Series opener against Florida due to weather delays in Omaha, Nebraska.
Kyle Field, typically seating 102,733, managed to accommodate the massive crowd by adding floor seating and standing room. The concert’s attendance not only surpassed football game records but also highlighted the venue’s capacity to host diverse and large-scale events. Just a week prior, the stadium hosted an international soccer match between Mexico and Brazil, which drew 85,249 fans.
