Gorman’s Post Fire Expands to 12,000 Acres, Communities Prepare for the Worst
Southern California is currently battling multiple wildfires, with one of the largest, the Post Fire near Gorman, escalating rapidly.
As of the latest update, the blaze has engulfed over 12,000 acres of land across Los Angeles and Ventura counties, with containment efforts still at a precarious 2%. The fire, which began near Ralph’s Ranch and Gorman School roads, threatens nearby communities and has already damaged two commercial properties.
Approximately 1,200 individuals have been evacuated from the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area, and Pyramid Lake has been closed to the public as a precautionary measure.
Firefighters from multiple agencies, including the USDA Forest Service, Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County Fire Department, and Ventura County Fire Department, are working tirelessly to establish containment lines and prevent further spread.
However, with winds expected to intensify, reaching up to 70 mph according to the National Weather Service, the situation remains volatile.
In addition to the Post Fire, another significant blaze, the Hesperia Fire in San Bernardino County, has surpassed 1,300 acres in size and is currently 7% contained. Evacuation warnings are in effect for Arrowhead Equestrian Estates, and road closures have been implemented along State Route 173.
Authorities urge residents in affected areas to stay informed through local emergency channels and comply with evacuation orders for their safety. The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued smoke advisories, advising residents to minimize outdoor activities and take precautions against the health risks posed by wildfire smoke.
