In the past year and a half, Jesse Plemons has undergone a dramatic transformation, shedding over 50 pounds through a disciplined approach of intermittent fasting.

The 36-year-old actor, known for his roles in Friday Night Lights and Black Mass, recently opened up about his weight loss journey, the motivation behind it, and its impact on his life and career.

He revealed his weight loss during the premiere of his new film, Kinds of Kindness, where he appeared noticeably slimmer and more energetic. He credited intermittent fasting, a dietary regimen that alternates periods of eating and fasting, for his success.

“Several people talked to me about intermittent fasting, and I just gave it a shot,” Plemons told Entertainment Tonight. “I was surprised at how quickly it was effective.”

He decided to start his health journey for both personal and work reasons. As a dad to two young boys, Ennis, 6, and James, 3, with his wife Kirsten Dunst, he wanted to have more energy to keep up with his kids.

“I have much more energy now, and I’ve got young kids, so I got to keep up with them,” he said.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Plemons addressed the rumors and speculations about the use of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic.

“It’s really unfortunate that I decided to get healthy when everyone decided to take Ozempic,” he joked. “It doesn’t matter. Everyone’s going to think I took Ozempic anyways.” His journey was purely the result of intermittent fasting and a commitment to better health.

Reflecting on his past work, including his part as Kevin Weeks in Black Mass, where he gained significant weight, Plemons realized the need for a change.

He mentioned, “There was a part that I did that, in my mind, I could not imagine him as the size that I was.”

At the New York City premiere of Kinds of Kindness on June 20, Plemons showcased his new look, donning a tailored black suit that highlighted his leaner physique.

His wife, Kirsten Dunst, was by his side, supporting him through his transformation. Dunst, who also shares two young sons with Plemons, played a significant role in his journey, providing encouragement and support.

During an interview at the premiere, he spoke about the impact of his weight loss on his daily life.

“Well, I’m not lugging 50 more pounds around,” he quipped. “I have much more energy [now], and like I’ve said, I’ve got young kids, so I got to keep up with them.” He added, “I lost a little bit before I did that part and then felt like I was in the rhythm. I was feeling better, and something shifted in my head.”

His latest film, Kinds of Kindness, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, features him in a challenging role that required a lot from him both physically and emotionally.

The film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, has already earned him the prestigious Best Actor award, a testament to his dedication and talent. Plemons plays three distinct characters in the movie, a task he initially found daunting but ultimately rewarding.

“I really love the film and I’ve never seen anything like it,” he shared, expressing his excitement for fans to see the project.

The transformation has not only been physical but also mental and emotional for Plemons. “I lost a little bit before I did that part and then felt like I was in the rhythm. I was feeling better, and something shifted in my head,” he said.
