Kate Middleton to Attend Trooping the Colour 2024 in First Public Appearance Since Cancer Diagnosis
In a highly anticipated return to public life, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, will attend the Trooping the Colour parade on Saturday, marking her first royal event of the year. This celebration, held at the Horse Guards Parade near Buckingham Palace, honors King Charles III’s official birthday.
The announcement was made by Kate herself on social media, where she expressed her excitement for the event and gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received during her health struggles.
“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer,” she wrote.
The post included a new photograph taken at her home in Windsor, reflecting her journey over the past few months.
This appearance is particularly significant as it is Kate’s first since revealing her cancer diagnosis earlier this year. In a video message released in March, Kate disclosed that she had been undergoing preventative chemotherapy following a planned abdominal surgery in January. Initially thought to be non-cancerous, further tests revealed the presence of cancer, a revelation that she described as a shock.
Kate shared an update on her condition, stating she is making “good progress” but acknowledging the ongoing challenges of her treatment. “There are good days and bad days,” she noted, emphasizing the importance of patience and self-care.
Trooping the Colour is not only a landmark event for Kate but also for King Charles III, who has also been undergoing treatment for cancer. The King, who had surgery for an enlarged prostate in January, will participate in the parade. Unlike previous years, he is expected to join the festivities in a carriage rather than on horseback, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace.
The parade, a cornerstone of British tradition, features a display of military precision and music, culminating in the iconic RAF flypast and the royal family’s balcony appearance.
Coverage of the King’s Birthday Parade will begin at 10:30 am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with highlights broadcast later in the evening on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
