Lana Del Rey had to shorten her Fenway Park show by two hours due to bad weather
Fans were excited for Lana Del Rey’s first-ever U.S. stadium concert at Fenway Park in Boston. However, bad weather caused a long delay and the show had to be shorter than planned. Despite facing these challenges, Lana Del Rey’s performance still enchanted the audience and left a strong impression on everyone who attended.
On June 20, 2024, as fans gathered at Fenway Park, everyone was excited. But then, dark storm clouds appeared, and around 8:30 p.m., organizers announced that everyone had to leave the field.
There was a severe thunderstorm coming, so people were told to go inside the stadium and find a safe place.
The storm brought heavy rain and lots of lightning, which meant they couldn’t start the concert as planned. It was unclear when or if the show would go on because of the bad weather.
Lana Del Rey took to social media to update her fans. In a series of Instagram and TikTok posts, she explained that each lightning strike required a 20-minute wait before resuming the setup.
“We were hoping to fill the room back up by 10 o’clock and at least do an hour-long show,” she said.
The 11 p.m. noise curfew at Fenway added to the urgency, with Del Rey and her team weighing the options of a shortened show or rescheduling.
In the end, she chose to go ahead, which made her fans very happy. The concert started at 10:30 p.m. with a joyful atmosphere, marked by spraying champagne bottles to start the long-awaited performance.
Even though the show was shorter due to the rain, she still created a magical experience, showcasing her distinctive Hollywood style and glamour.
The stage at Fenway Park was decorated with a fountain, props reminiscent of the 1920s, and twelve backup dancers, setting a dramatic and engaging mood.
Del Rey started her performance with popular songs like “Without You,” “Summertime Sadness,” and “West Coast,” instantly captivating the crowd.
She also sang songs from her recent album released in 2023, titled Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd.
The concert became even more special with three surprise guest performances. Mason Ramsey, famous for his viral yodeling at Walmart, sang “Blue Over You” with Lana Del Rey. Stephen Sanchez also joined her on stage to perform his popular song “Until I Found You.”
Additionally, Quavo made an appearance for the first live performance of their new song “Tough,” which will be part of Lana Del Rey’s upcoming country album “Lasso,” scheduled for release in September.
She sincerely spoke to the crowd, recognizing the difficulties caused by the weather and appreciating fans for their patience and support.
“Oh, Boston, we’re making it happen!” she exclaimed with gratitude and enthusiasm as she stepped onto the stage, eager to finally begin her performance.
The shortened list of songs included both popular favorites and lesser-known tracks, though some well-loved hits like “A&W” and “Young and Beautiful” couldn’t be fit in due to time limits.
The night wrapped up with her 2012 hit “Video Games,” ending just after 11:30 p.m., slightly going past the curfew but leaving fans feeling thrilled and satisfied.
