Its combat system is designed for real-time engagement, pitting players against foes such as bandits and werewolves. Players can equip themselves with a variety of weapons, armor, and clothing, and level up their characters in chosen combat classes to survive the world’s dangers, especially in the treacherous region of Bleakwood.
A standout feature of Mirthwood is its Sims-style interaction system. Players can meet, befriend, or even insult the game’s numerous NPCs, each of whom leads their own life in the fully simulated world.
Building relationships with these characters can unlock new social interactions, quests, and tasks, adding depth and realism to the gameplay.
According to Brian Hecox, co-founder of Bad Ridge Games, developing Mirthwood has been a labor of love for the small indie team. Crafting an open-world RPG with life simulation elements is no easy feat, and the team is thrilled for players to immerse themselves in the game. Hecox emphasizes that launch day is just the beginning, hinting at future updates and expansions.
