Her most prominent roles were Misty, a close friend of Ash Ketchum, and Jessie, the mischievous member of Team Rocket, in the Pokémon animated series.

Starting in the late 1990s, her voice became synonymous with these characters, who were central to the show’s success. Her portrayal of Misty, the water-type Pokémon trainer, and Jessie, known for her comedic villainy, were instrumental in defining the personalities of these characters.

Beyond these iconic roles, Lillis also voiced the playful Jigglypuff, whose lullaby could put anyone to sleep, making it one of the most memorable Pokémon. Her work extended beyond the TV series into numerous Pokémon movies and video games, cementing her legacy in the franchise.

Born on July 8, 1969, in Niagara Falls, New York, Lillis initially pursued a pre-med track at Smith College before discovering her passion for voice acting. She began her career in the 1980s, but it was in the 1990s that she found her big break with Pokémon.

Over eight years, she voiced characters in hundreds of episodes, becoming a familiar presence in households across the globe.

Her contribution to the Pokémon franchise was not limited to Misty, Jessie, and Jigglypuff. Lillis’s versatile voice brought life to various other characters, making her an integral part of the Pokémon universe.

Her colleagues, including Veronica Taylor, who voiced Ash Ketchum, and Eric Stuart, the voice of James from Team Rocket, fondly remember her dedication and unique talent.

Eric Stuart recalled how Lillis transformed from a quiet, sweet individual into a powerhouse of energy once she stepped into the recording booth. Veronica Taylor described her as a bright light, both in her professional work and personal interactions.

Throughout her battle with cancer, Lillis remained grateful for the support she received from her fans and friends.

Her sister, Laurie Orr, expressed the family’s deep grief and gratitude for the donations that poured in through a GoFundMe campaign aimed at covering Lillis’s medical expenses. The campaign raised over $100,000, highlighting the deep affection and admiration fans had for her.

Lillis’s voice acting extended beyond Pokémon. She lent her voice to characters in other anime series and video games, including roles in Revolutionary Girl Utena, Hunter x Hunter, and Super Smash Bros.
