Wrestling Couple Rhea Ripley and Buddy Matthews Get Married
Rhea Ripley from WWE and Buddy Matthews from AEW got married on June 23, 2024. They shared the happy news on Instagram with a photo.
The picture showed them in black outfits, kissing under a neon sign that said “’Til Death,” with music from the Addams Family playing in the background. Matthews’ real name is Matthew Adams, which made the song choice fun.
Ripley wore a black wedding dress, matching her gothic style, while Matthews wore a black suit. The photo captured their unique look and love for each other.
In her Instagram post, Ripley wrote, “Till death. 23.06.24,” adding a black heart emoji.
Ripley has been away from wrestling since April because of a shoulder injury. This injury made her give up her WWE Women’s World Championship, which she had held for over a year. During her break, she spent time with Matthews, including taking a vacation and getting married.
Matthews, who joined AEW after leaving WWE in 2021, has also been off TV recently due to a made-up injury for a storyline.
The couple got engaged in August 2023 after dating for three years and have supported each other despite working for different wrestling companies.
Matthews had shared their engagement news last year, saying, “She said yes!” with a photo of them together.
Ripley’s time away has led to talk about changes in her wrestling group, The Judgment Day. Some think she and fellow member Damian Priest might become good guys, leading to new storylines when she returns, possibly by SummerSlam 2024.
Sam Roberts, on the NotSam Wrestling Podcast, said, “If you don’t think Damian Priest is a good guy by the time we get to SummerSlam, I don’t know what show you’re watching.”
Fans are excited for Ripley’s return, but for now, they are happy for her and Matthews. Their marriage is a big personal step and a moment of joy for wrestling fans everywhere.
Matthews tweeted, “Looking forward to forever with you,” and Ripley replied with, “Forever and always.”
