Shifty Shellshock, the lead singer of the band Crazy Town, has died at the age of 49. He was known for his unique music style and his personal struggles.
Seth Binzer, known as Shifty Shellshock, became famous in the early 2000s with Crazy Town. The band, formed in 1999 with Bret Mazur, mixed rap and rock music. They started with the name The Brimstone Sluggers but soon changed it to Crazy Town.
Their first album, The Gift of Game, came out in November 1999. The hit song “Butterfly,” which used a sample from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, made them very popular, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Even though “Butterfly” was a big hit, Crazy Town couldn’t keep up the same level of success. Their second album, “Darkhorse,” released in 2002, didn’t do well, and the band broke up.
He continued making music and worked with DJ Paul Oakenfold on the 2002 song “Starry Eyed Surprise,” which did okay on the charts. In 2004, he released his solo album “Happy Love Sick,” which was somewhat successful in Europe.
Shellshock was open about his problems with addiction. He talked about it often and appeared on TV shows like VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab” and “Sober House” to deal with his issues. Despite his efforts, he continued to struggle, facing arrests and health problems, including a coma in 2012.
In 2022, he was arrested for DUI, showing that his addiction issues were ongoing. He also had a well-known relationship with actress Soleil Moon Frye, which ended before his arrest.
On June 24, 2024, Shellshock was found dead at his home in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed his death, but the cause is still unknown.
Many fans and friends shared their sadness and memories on social media, remembering his music and his fight against addiction.
