In a heartfelt ceremony on June 14, 2024, at Saltmarshe Hall in East Yorkshire, music mogul Simon Cowell had a key role in the wedding of singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan to her long-time partner, Emilia Smith.

Cowell, famous for his sharp comments on talent shows, showed a gentler side as he walked Spraggan down the aisle, highlighting a friendship that has grown significantly over the past year.

His role in Lucy Spraggan’s wedding is a big moment in their friendship. They became close after Spraggan shared that she was attacked by a hotel worker during her time on The X Factor in 2012.

Even though Cowell wasn’t a judge that year, he reached out to her to apologize, which started their strong and supportive friendship.

“Simon simply said, ‘I am sorry,’ and that meant everything to me,” Spraggan shared in an interview. This act of compassion paved the way for numerous dinners, outings, and a bond that feels like family, according to both parties.

Wearing a black suit, Cowell walked Lucy Spraggan, who was dressed in a white suit by King & Allen, down the aisle.

Spraggan walked to her own song, “Other Sides of the Moon,” which she dedicated to her new wife, Emilia Smith. As they stood at the door, both Cowell and Spraggan were clearly moved, showing how close they have become.

“I was already crying, and Simon definitely had a tear in his eye,” Spraggan recalled. Cowell, known for his stoic public persona, admitted to being nervous and emotional, a testament to the significance he placed on this role.

Cowell’s role extended beyond just walking Spraggan down the aisle. He was also a key figure throughout the day, offering support and sharing in the couple’s joy.

“I considered it a very big deal,” Cowell said. “On the day, I was actually quite nervous because I’ve never been asked before. And then very proud and happy and emotional.”

His partner, Lauren Silverman, actor Tom Turgoose, and RuPaul’s Drag Race star Bimini Bon-Boulash were among the guests who witnessed this heartfelt moment. The event also featured unique touches such as an ice bath, a tarot card reader, and a tattoo artist, with both brides getting matching tattoos of their wedding date.
