US Supreme Court Says No Guns for Domestic Violence Offenders
In a significant ruling, the US Supreme Court has decided to support a federal law that stops people under domestic violence restraining orders from having guns.
Chief Justice John Roberts, who spoke for most of the judges, highlighted that this law helps protect potential victims from immediate danger.
He said, “If someone clearly threatens to physically harm another person, we can take away their guns.”
President Joe Biden expressed his support for the Supreme Court’s decision, saying it ensures important protections for survivors of domestic violence.
He emphasized, “People who have been abused shouldn’t have to fear their abuser having a gun.”
Vice President Kamala Harris underscored the importance of safeguarding domestic violence survivors, emphasizing that she and President Biden are dedicated to ensuring every American, especially those affected by domestic violence, can live free from the threat of gun violence.
She stated, “President Biden and I will never cease our efforts to protect survivors and ensure their safety from firearms.”
The Supreme Court’s ruling comes amid ongoing national debates on Second Amendment rights and gun control measures, underscoring the judiciary’s role in balancing constitutional rights with public safety imperatives.
