Country music icon Willie Nelson has sparked concern among fans after missing the opening shows of the 2024 Outlaw Music Festival Tour.
The 91-year-old singer was scheduled to take the stage on June 21st in Alpharetta, Georgia, but a social media statement announced he would be unable to perform due to health reasons.
Nelson’s team assured fans in the statement that he is “not feeling well” but is following doctor’s orders to rest for the next few days.
While the specific nature of his illness remains undisclosed, the positive outlook is that he will make a “quick recovery” and rejoin the tour next week.
This isn’t the first time Nelson has had to navigate health hurdles during his extensive career. In 2018, he abruptly left a concert due to breathing problems and later canceled a month of shows for a severe flu.
The show must go on! Even though Willie won’t be there at first, the festival is still happening with a bunch of other famous singers.
Lukas Nelson, Willie’s son, and his band will be playing some of Willie’s songs and their own music. You can also see other country music legends like Bob Dylan and Robert Plant!
The upcoming shows will see Lukas Nelson carrying the torch in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 22nd and Raleigh, North Carolina on June 23rd.
Following a short break, the tour resumes on June 26th in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where fans can eagerly anticipate Nelson’s return to the stage.
This latest health setback comes amidst the excitement surrounding the 2024 Outlaw Music Festival. Back in February, Nelson himself shared the news on social media, expressing his enthusiasm about “an incredible lineup of legendary artists.” This year’s festival boasts a truly impressive roster, living up to Nelson’s billing as the “biggest and best yet.”
The Outlaw Music Festival concept was first introduced in 2016, bringing together a diverse range of country music giants.
Past iterations have featured names like Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, Eric Church, and Sheryl Crow. The festival provides a platform for established artists to share the stage and celebrate the rich tapestry of country music.
While health concerns are a very real part of life, particularly at 91 years old, Willie Nelson’s history of overcoming health issues offers hope for a swift recovery.
Fans around the country will undoubtedly be waiting with bated breath for his return to the Outlaw Music Festival stage. In the meantime, they can enjoy the stellar lineup and the opportunity to witness Lukas Nelson carrying on the family tradition.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, veteran country singer Merle Haggard, a longtime friend of Nelson’s, shared his well wishes: “Willie’s a fighter. He’s been through a lot in his life, and he always comes back stronger. I’m pullin’ for him to get back on that stage real soon. In the meantime, folks should go out and see Lukas and the band. They put on a hell of a show.”
